eye test

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requires that employers must arrange an eye test for display screen equipment (DSE) users - including computers - if they ask for one. The employer must also provide glasses if an employee needs them only for DSE use.

DSE work does not cause permanent damage to eyes. But long spells of DSE work can lead to tired eyes, discomfort, temporary short-sightedness, headaches.

Further information on providing eye tests and glasses is available from the HSE at: www.hse.gov.uk/msd/dse/eye-tests.htm

The HSE also publishes other information relevant to those employing DSE users, including breaks, working from home, work stations, work routine etc at: www.hse.gov.uk/msd/dse/index.htm
